HOW THIS SONG CAME ABOUT...

On September 11, 2001, our nation faced a grave tragedy.  For a season, the events of that day brought us together in solidarity.  It caused us to rethink what is important in life and to actively consider the preciousness of each and every human being.  It taught us to recognize that tomorrow is not promised and that we must make the most of each day given to us.  Sanctioned as well as spontaneous prayer was welcomed again for a time in places where previously it was not welcomed in the public forum.  We also saw a revival in patriotism and recalled the reasons why the United States of America is seen to be a unique nation in the eons of world history.

Early on the morning of September 23, 2001, I awoke from deep sleep actually singing the words of a not-yet-written song... "It's time to bless God... it's time to speak His Name with honor... to remember He's the power that makes our nation strong...".  I quickly arose, knowing that God was wanting to speak and that I needed to listen.  The words came quickly and within minutes the music and message was complete and inscribed.  Though many did write songs commemorating the events of 9/11, that was not something I had any intent to pursue.  This song simply was given - and I was grateful to receive it.

Later on the day of the attacks, our national leaders came together on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in a show of united leadership.  After words  were offered to soothe and reassure a hurting nation, the members of Congress launched into singing the treasured anthem, "God Bless America".  It is my belief that the song I received days later, "America It's Time To Bless God", was God's response to those who represent our county before Him.  The message was not one of vengeful reprimand - but of God Himself extending His arms to us and calling to a prodigal and beloved child who has lost his way to come home to Him.  God had not forgotten or forsaken us - in all our trials and challenges He was there with us waiting only for us to turn to Him in trust and dependence. His mercy and grace continues to stand ready to sustain us - as individuals and as a nation.
